Heartless
I see them hiding in the shadows
Up above in the gables
I am one with them so I fear them not
Feeling their eyes upon my back so hot
I, too, have felt the hand of death
As it was taken with my final breath
I know too well the familiarity of it all
Ravaging victims as they fall
Feeling the pulse leave as I fed
Never once did I feel dread
I took them down one by lonely one
And had my way with them until I was done
I have since had a change of heart
It was hard for me to take part
I now have my soul back as my own
I am now not just another drone
I watch them as they take life after life
Wondering why I changed my mind
The pull of the whole thing has me warped
Not realizing how much I hated it
But I can see now I made the right decision
I can now take my time and live out my vision
